What Parents Think

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

My daughter loved the half term camp and she looked forward to it every day. She enjoyed all the activities and started saying some Mandarin words that she learnt when she came home. Every day is a new adventure at Play Mandarin.
The teachers are very thoughtful and we love the part that they introduced the dragon boat festival and childhood games to the children. It is wonderful to be able to share our heritage with children in a fun way. She felt very accomplished showing me the rice dumpling she made with her teachers. Thank you so much to all the teachers for all their efforts!!
We are looking forward to more Play Mandarin classes. It made me wish that Chinese class was this fun when I grew up.

Wai Ping (Evie's mum)

When children lose focus, how can teachers bring them back?

In children’s Mandarin classes, it is common for children to get distracted, interrupt, or suddenly go off topic.

The real challenge is not whether children lose focus.
It is whether the teacher can guide them back without rushing to blame or correct them. ✨

A reminder should not make the child feel “I’m in trouble”.
It should help them understand:

“We’re coming back to the story.”
“It’s time to return to the activity.”
“Teacher is waiting for you to come back with us.”

Try these 3 tips:

Tip 1｜Build a routine, bring them back
Use a familiar phrase, eye contact, hand signal or small classroom cue.

Tip 2｜Guide gently, don’t blame
Children may not need correction first.
They may simply need a calm reminder to return to the learning moment.

Tip 3｜Understand the child, adjust your response
Some children need clear instructions.
Some need encouragement.
Some need the teacher to understand their state first, then respond in the right way.

In Play Mandarin Teacher Training, we practise more than activity design.
We build the observation, guidance and adaptability needed in real classrooms. 🌱

A good children’s Mandarin teacher does not only finish the lesson.
They also know how to bring children back to learning when their focus drifts. ✨

🎓 2026 Play Mandarin Parent Morning has wrapped up!

Thank you to every parent who joined us at Hammersmith & Wimbledon. 💛

Learning Mandarin is not just about memorising more words or writing more characters.
What matters more is helping children want to learn, understand, speak, and truly use Mandarin. 🌱

During the session, we shared:

✨ How children learn Mandarin at different ages and stages
✨ Play Mandarin’s curriculum pathway
✨ How games, stories, drama and real-life contexts help children use Mandarin
✨ How parents can support learning at home without pressure
✨ Our upcoming curriculum updates and new directions

As children grow, their learning needs change too.
Play Mandarin will continue to grow with them.

Next, we will continue using classroom observation, stage-based assessment, progress tracking and parent communication, so each child’s learning goals and next steps become clearer.

While keeping our core of learning through play and doing, we will continue strengthening children’s listening, speaking, character recognition, reading and expression skills.

We want “fun” to be more than enjoying class.
We want it to help children speak, use Mandarin and keep learning with confidence. ✨

Understand it. Say it. Read it. Use it.

Classroom Moments Teachers Meet (2)｜Toilet Emergency 🚽🚨

When a child has an accident in class, what comes to your mind first?

“What should I do with my lesson?”
or
“What does this child need right now?”

Teaching well is the foundation.
But staying calm, protecting the child and managing the classroom during unexpected moments — that is real classroom skill. 💪

Remember 4 steps:

🔹 Comfort
Use a calm voice: “It’s okay. We’ll sort it out together.”

🔹 Protect
Respect the child’s privacy and dignity. Do not make it a big moment in front of the class.

🔹 Inform
Contact parents and the school team, and follow the proper procedure.

🔹 Reconnect
Use a song, task or simple game to bring the class back into rhythm.

In Play Mandarin Teacher Training, we practise more than teaching methods.
We also build the adaptability and empathy needed for real classroom moments. 🌱

A good children’s Mandarin teacher teaches with professionalism, and helps children feel safe when they need support. ✨

Everyday Classroom Moments (1)
A child’s reaction often shows how they understand the situation. ✨

For children’s Mandarin teachers, it is not only about planning “what to teach today”.
It is also about thinking one step further:

How might the child be understanding this situation?
Are they really not cooperating, or have they simply misunderstood?
How can the teacher guide them back in a way they can understand?

In Play Mandarin In-Person Teacher Training,
we do not only share “what games to play”.
We practise how to observe children, understand their reactions, guide them clearly, and bring every little classroom moment back to Mandarin learning. 🌱

Because a good children’s Mandarin lesson is not just about finishing the content.
It is about helping children feel understood, become willing to join in, willing to speak, and willing to keep learning Mandarin. ✨
